The Grande Ferrade domain

Located in the area of the PDO Pessac-Léognan, the winegrowing past of the Grande Ferrade dates way back. Established on gravelly soil with excellent drainage, the 14 hectares of vineyard have always been well-known for producing high-quality wine, “competing with those from Haut-Brion” (excerpt from the Guide Féret 1897 “Les Vins des Graves”):

Although now entirely dedicated to research, the Grande Ferrade vineyard allows producing three cuvées. These wines are devised by Château Couhins, property of INRAE. The vineyard is cultivated in the utmost respect of the environment, without any herbicide or insecticide. Soil management is based on the use of plant covers (both spontaneous and sown) completed by tillage beneath the row.

3 vins

La Grande Ferrade Pessac-Léognan white: mostly made from Sémillon with some Sauvignon blanc, it’s a typical Bordeaux wine, best served when it’s young.

La Grande Ferrade Pessac Léognan red: a blend of Merlot (in major part) and Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s vinified in a stainless steel vat and raised for 6 months.

La Grande Ferrade, "Vin de France" rosé : this wine is made from new varieties created by INRAE to resist mildew and powdery mildew naturally. The grapes are grown on an agroecological plot which aims to stimulate natural regulations, limit tillage and drastically reduce any use of phytosanitary inputs.
